Discounts

There are multiple ways to apply discounts to subscriptions. This guide will help you choose the right method based on your goals.

Built-in Juo discounts

Juo offers several built-in discount types designed to improve conversion and reward subscriber loyalty.

1. Selling plan discounts

Selling plan discounts let you offer lower prices for subscription products compared to one-time purchases. These discounts stay active for the entire duration of a subscription. However, changes to them won’t affect existing subscribers. As part of the Subscribe & save experience, these discounts are set individually per selling plan (e.g. each delivery frequency). You can choose from three discount types:

1. Percentage
2. Fixed amount (in store currency)
3. Set price (manually define the product price for subscribers)

You can also configure a Variable discount that changes after a defined number of cycles. This is useful for offering an introductory price or rewarding long-term subscribers.

2. Extras

Like selling plan discounts, Extras are part of the Subscribe & save experience but are configured at the Subscription plan level (affecting all selling plans within that plan). Extras let you define different discount values depending on the subscription cycle. This is useful for building progressive or tiered discounts.

4. Plan-specific discount codes (Shopify admin)

You can also create discount codes and automatic discounts directly in the Shopify admin. These are scoped to specific Juo subscription offers, so you keep Shopify’s native discount functionality while controlling which purchase options are eligible. To create one, go to Shopify → Discounts → Create discount and scroll down to Juo Subscriptions. Selling plan-specific eligibility You can set the eligibility of these discounts to all or just some purchase options. Use this to restrict eligibility by selling plan without giving up Shopify’s native discount codes and automatic discount rules. Local payment method support Standard Shopify subscription discounts may not apply correctly with certain local payment methods, because Shopify treats those payments differently from card-based subscriptions. Subscription offer discounts created via Juo apply reliably across supported local payment methods:

• iDEAL
• Bancontact
• BLIK
• MB WAY

This ensures discount codes behave as intended regardless of how the customer pays.

5. Tiered discounts (Juo)

Volume / threshold discounts created in Experiences → Tiered discounts. They appear at cart and checkout, support percentage / fixed / set-price tiers, product or collection targeting, and subscription vs one-time eligibility. See Tiered discounts.

6. Discounts applied in Admin

From a subscription (or via bulk actions), you can add Amount off subscription or Amount off products for a set number of renewals or permanently — without creating a Shopify discount code.

Using Shopify discounts with subscriptions

Shopify’s discount codes and automatic discounts natively support subscriptions. To enable this, select Subscription or Both in the Purchase type field. This allows discounts to be used at checkout and in the Juo Customer Portal. You can choose whether the discount applies only to the first payment or to a defined number of recurring charges. Important: if a discount code is used in the Juo Customer Portal, Shopify still counts the initial checkout order toward the usage limit. Example: if you want the discount to apply only to the next renewal, set Limit discount to multiple recurring payments to 2.

Combining discounts

Selling plan discounts and Extras always stack with Shopify discount codes. The Build-a-box discount is a product-level discount. If you want your discount codes to work with it, configure them to combine with product discounts. Also check Build-a-box settings to allow discount stacking.

Third-party discount apps

Juo supports discount apps that are compatible with Shopify selling plans. Check with the app developer to confirm compatibility and setup instructions.
